Govt, opposition fails to agree on caretaker CM Punjab

The parliamentary committee in Pakistan failed to reach a consensus on the nomination of the caretaker chief minister for the province of Punjab. Former provincial minister Raja Basharat, a member of the committee, stated that the opposition members did not agree on their nominations and were proposing two different names. As a result, the matter will now be decided by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). Raja Basharat added that they will approach the courts if a controversial figure is chosen as the caretaker CM. The names proposed by both parties will now be sent to the ECP for a final decision. The outgoing government of the PML-Q and PTI alliance nominated former bureaucrats Ahmed Nawaz Sukhira and Naveed Akram Cheema for the post, while the opposition has recommended Ahad Cheema and Mohsin Raza Naqvi.
