Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Secretary General Asad Umar met with envoys in Islamabad on Tuesday to discuss the party’s efforts to promote free and fair elections and end political instability in the country. The “breakfast meeting” was organized by Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan Neil Hawkins and attended by ambassadors from European and Muslim countries.
During the meeting, the PTI leaders discussed the current political situation in the country and emphasized the importance of transparent elections held as per schedule. They expressed their gratitude to the Australian High Commissioner for organizing the meeting.
The PTI, led by Chairman Imran Khan, has been calling for general elections in Pakistan since their government’s ouster through a vote of no-confidence in April last year. To press for their demand for snap polls, the party dissolved the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies where it held power.
Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has been facing various legal challenges that have led to his party workers taking to the streets and causing violent clashes with security personnel in Lahore and Islamabad.
