The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has postponed the upcoming elections in Punjab, which may indicate that the polls in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will also not be conducted before October 8. The decision to postpone the elections in Punjab from April 30 to October 8 was made due to security and law and order reasons, and after consultations with various stakeholders, including military officials, intelligence agencies, and the chief secretary of Punjab. The governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa proposed May 28 as the date for the general election in his province but did not formally give any date during his meeting at the ECP and sent a letter to the commission later, citing challenges that needed to be dealt with before going for elections. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced that it will challenge the ECP decision in the Supreme Court. Experts suggest that the KP polls will now be held along with other provincial legislatures and the National Assembly.
