Imran Khan to appear before LHC today for protective bail

Imran Khan, the Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has planned to go to the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday to provide assurance that he is ready to appear before the Islamabad sessions court that has issued non-bailable arrest warrants against him on March 18. PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry confirmed that Imran Khan will personally come to the LHC and assure the judge of his readiness to go to the Islamabad court, and an undertaking has also been given in this regard. The Islamabad police, backed up by their Punjab Police compatriots and the Rangers, arrived at the ex-premier’s house on Tuesday to execute non-bailable arrest warrants issued by an Islamabad sessions court for him in the Toshakhana case – in which he has skipped several hearings. However, the operation was paused during the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL), and the LHC had intervened and postponed the operation. On Thursday, an Islamabad sessions court upheld the arrest warrants and ordered the arrest of the ex-premier, with PTI’s Fawad Chaudhry demanding that Imran should be given a “safe passage” to appear in the court. Earlier today, the LHC extended its bar on the police operation for Imran’s arrest while hearing Chaudhry’s plea against police action at Zaman Park, and both parties have agreed to resolve the issues which will be presented in court.
