It appears that there is a political situation in Pakistan regarding the holding of elections in certain regions. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, led by Imran Khan, has called for elections in the provinces of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to be held within 90 days as specified by the Constitution. The PTI has also dissolved the assemblies of these two provinces as a means of pressing for a date for the general elections. The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), a key ally of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, has backed the PTI’s call for elections. The Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety, Faisal Karim Kundi, has emphasized the need for elections to be held in accordance with the Constitution and has called on the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to make plans for transparent elections.
However, Kundi also criticized the PTI for not holding local body elections while they were in power in Punjab and for using the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for political purposes. Kundi claimed that the PTI lodged false cases against leaders of other political parties but was unable to provide evidence in court. He emphasized that the PPP leadership does not believe in political victimization and has never used NAB or other institutions for political vendetta.
